Give a Laptop, Get a Laptop
Wednesday, December 26th, 2007
We’re heading into the final days of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative allowing you to purchase one XO laptop to donate to a child in another country and one XO for your own personal use. The combo deal runs $399 and the retail value of the donated XO ($200) is tax deductible.
This offer was initially set to run only for a week last month, but due to overwhelming demand, has been held over through December 31st.
As if the chance to grab an XO for yourself isn’t enough of a hook, there are a number of additional offers added to sweeten the deal, including a complimentary one-year subscription to T-Mobile’s HotSpot wi-fi access, a $360 value.

Hi -
Thanks for your very interesting and thoughtful blog.
I came across this with a google search for “bainbridge XO”. Did you get one? My two kids got two for Christmas, and I’d be interested in finding more folks on Bainbridge Island with them or with an interest in them. They really are quite fun devices for kids to play with and learn on, and the real fun starts when you get more of them connected up in a “neighborhood”.
Assuming your blog’s name has something to do with Bainbridge Island, perhaps you and some of your readers that pay attention to your advice fit the bill.
Here’s two links that might be of interest:
1) Bainbridge Island XO Google Group:

2) Seattle OLPC Group Forming

Hi Tobias,
Thanks for the comment! We’re actually based in Seattle (the Bainbridge name is a reference to the Northwest that goes back years, as I originally started the business while working on the East Coast).
We did order an XO via the “Give a laptop, get a laptop” program. We haven’t received it yet, but did get an update via email earlier this week that ours should be shipping within the next 7-10 days.
Thanks for the info on the user groups and we’ll certainly check them out once we’ve got our XO in hand.

[…] It’s been a busy start to 2008 for Bainbridge Studios, but one thing I’ve been meaning to do for weeks now is get some computer hardware up on eBay to clear out. Having recently switched to a new 2.4 GHz MacBook (Black) as my main machine, I’m selling my previous workhorse, a 2.33 Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, along with a BookEndz docking station and my mammoth 30″ Cinema Display (the new MacBook can’t drive a 30″ at full resolution, so I’ve downgraded to a new 23″ Cinema Display). I’ve got all three up now on eBay, along with the XO laptop we acquired from the One Laptop Per Child program’s “Give a Laptop, Get a Laptop” program back in December. […]
